The NATIONAL UNIVERSITY OF PHYSICAL EDUCATION AND SPORTS (UNEFS) in Bucharest is the first higher education institution for the training of physical education teachers in Romania. It was the 10th institution of this kind in the world and the 5th in Europe.
The courses began on 1 December 1922 in Bucharest, and the establishment document was acknowledged by the Law on Physical Education promulgated on 15 June 1923 and published in the Official Gazette no. 59 of 17 June 1923, under the name of NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF PHYSICAL EDUCATION (INEF). The first headquarters of the new INEF was in Dealul Spirii, the place where, on 13 September 1848, the firemen of Valter Maracineanu defended the provisional government against the Turks.
In June 2018, the UNEFS, which was given several names over time, celebrated 95 years of uninterrupted activity. Throughout this period, great athletes, honored coaches, successful managers and businessmen in various areas, people with responsible positions, institution leaders in our field and not only, true ambassadors of Romania, studied, trained or completed their training in this institution.
In the European Union classification system, UNEFS is defined as an “A” level education and research institution that brings together all basic areas of scientific knowledge related to man, education, health, culture and society. Study programs are in line with the Bologna Process, and the University has been awarded the Erasmus University Charter, having partnerships with universities in the European area.
At the external evaluations of 2009 and 2017, the ARACIS Council awarded the University a High Degree of Confidence rating.
Here, at UNEFS, we strive to inoculate our students with the ambition of self-improvement and pragmatic love for knowledge.
Walk with us, the future is waiting for you!

"Your University opened its gates in 1923 and passed 9 decades of tradition and modernity, enjoying our support and ordinance. The University was established with the assistance of my grandfather, King Ferdinand I, with the hope that it will last and bring the teaching to many generations that will come."
